Welcome to Madley Plants, thanks for visiting. We’re an independent, family run nursery, growing and selling top quality British plants in Madley, 7 miles west of Hereford.
We don't specialise in any particular type of plants at the nursery, we try to have as broad a range on offer as we can, all sourced as locally to Hereford as possible. Our focus is to be our area’s top independent nursery that sells seasonal plants and is able to provide constructive help and advice. If you're not sure what you're looking for, grab us for a chat and we can suggest different options that might work well in your garden, we're more than happy to help. We’re open 7 days a week, from 10am until 4pm.
On the plant side of things we have a wide range of shrubs and perennials all year round that are topped up regularly so it’s always worth coming over for a nosey around 👀. If we don’t have what you want, then we’d be more than happy to see if we can source it for you.
What’s going on at the nursery then? (updated 27th March)
Wow it's been a busy delivery week here at the nursery; on one day we had these 4…The first from Gardeners Kitchen with vegetable plants, the second from Frank P Matthews with new fruit and ornamental trees, the third from New Leaf Plants with beautiful climbers and the final one of the day from Ball Colegrave with our next batch of summer bedding plugs (another 7,000 so we’re up to 22,000 so far!). Come and have a browse of all the new stock - there’s still another 5 deliveries due before the weekend which will include heaps of fresh shrubs and perennials!
Previously…
And they’re here…the first 15,000 summer bedding plant plugs have arrived this morning! The polytunnel has been cleared and the heating is ready to go. They’ll be tucked up overnight ahead of chilly evenings and we’ll be potting up for a while so if you can’t see us when you’re here, most likely we’ll be in the tunnel. All your favourites including gaura, geraniums, petunias, fuchsias and much much more. Weather permitting they should be ready mid-end April but we’ll keep you posted.
It's lovely to see signs of growth and start to tidy and make plans for the borders. Now is a great time to add spring flowering perennials and we've just topped up our Small Plants For Small Spaces range. We've all the colours of aubrieta, cute little saxifrage and Michele's fave erigeron 'Sea of Blossom' and they’re only £4 each! There’s also plenty of other colour too so why not come and have a browse around?
We've just stocked up on some great new propagation products from Fothergill's. This range of plantable pots and pellets also includes mini greenhouse kits and fibre pots that can work perfectly along with the seaweed enriched, peat free, seed compost we stock. As we've mentioned before, we also have their new range of veg and flower seeds so we have everything you need to get propagating. As a result of this, all our previous stock of peat free fibre pots are now half marked price as we're running out of space in the shop. So if you want to make a start on your seeds, on a sunny window sill or greenhouse, now’s the time!
Not sure if you’re aware, but we send out occasional Madley Plants updates via email. You can read the latest one here and if you like it, feel free to sign up here. Don’t worry, we won’t fill your inbox with heaps of emails and we’ll never share your details with anybody else. Promise.
In other news…
Not really other news but worth mentioning…if you’re in need of refreshment while you’re here, we do have a fridge full of chilled drinks and a freezer full of fabulous ice cream from the lovely team at Rowlestone Farmhouse Ice Cream. There’s plenty of outside seating too, so if you’d like to take break, just grab one of us and we’ll sort it for you!
In need of some garden related ‘things’?
Also in our shop, we stock all the things you'd expect to find at your local nursery. There’s a wide range of garden essentials such as tree ties, plant labels, wire and vine ties right through to watering cans and great gifts for gardeners. We also have some gorgeous garden twines, pruners, loppers, plant food, child and pet safe garden care products, spades, forks as well as hosepipes and associated accessories. If you like your fires inside or out then we stock Certainly Wood's logs, flamers and kindling and as an alternative to logs for cooking on, we have Birchwood Forestry's pure hardwood charcoal in stock in either 3 or 6kg bags. Oh, and we stock a variety of composts too; peat reduced multi-purpose, ericaceous, Melcourt 'RHS Endorsed' peat-free multi-purpose and grow bags.

We also sell gift vouchers that can be spent here and can be bought either in person at the nursery or online here.

As well as our plants we also create beautiful potted displays. These can be made to order in pots either bought at the nursery or provided by you. We also do single flower or mixed flower hanging baskets heading into both Spring and Winter and are happy to take orders if you have any specific plant or colour themes in mind.
A brief history
The original nursery launched on this site in 1997 and was in the hands of the same owners until July 2015. It was then taken over by Michele and Simon who moved to Madley with their three boys, Harry, George & Jim. They re-named the nursery Madley Plants and opened the cafe in March 2016.
