Madley Plants

Welcome to Madley Plants, thanks for visiting. We’re an independent, family-run nursery, growing and selling top quality British plants in Madley, 7 miles west of Hereford.

We don't specialise in any particular type of plants at the nursery, we try to have as broad a range on offer as we can, all sourced as locally to Hereford as possible. Our focus is to be our area’s top independent nursery that sells seasonal plants and is able to provide constructive help and advice.  If you're not sure what you're looking for, grab us for a chat and we can suggest different options that might work well in your garden, we're more than happy to help. We’re open 7 days a week, from 10am until 4pm.

On the plant side of things we have a wide range of shrubs and perennials all year round that are topped up regularly so it’s always worth coming over for a nosey around 👀. If we don’t have what you want, then we’d be more than happy to see if we can source it for you.

What’s going on at the nursery then? (updated 19th November)

Christmas trees

The first of our pot grown and cut Christmas trees have arrived 🎄! We will have more stock arriving weekly and more info about our trees can be found here.

Christmas wreaths

** From 144 places there’s now less than 30 left! We do still have availability on Saturday 7th December (PM only), Saturday 14th December (AM and PM) and Sunday 15th (just a few places left in the morning) **

If you are thinking about coming along, now’s a good time to get yourself booked in before you miss out! If you want to see what spaces are available, head here. We've held our prices for the 3rd year running but as an added bonus, if you can get a group together of 6 or more, get in touch and we can look at a group discount for you. If you're a larger group, maybe a club or business, our sessions are for a maximum of 12 people and we'll be happy to block off a whole session for you at a discounted price too. Don't forget that if you come along this year you'll be invited to be an early bird next year giving you the pick of the dates and a discount too 👏. We're firm believers that every little helps...

Trees

We’ve recently had a delivery of lots of beautiful ornamental and fruit trees from the guys over at Frank Matthews. There is something for every type of garden, large or small; trees with great blossom, berries for the birds, autumn colour, fruit and more. Now is a great time to plant a tree too and if you need help choosing then Michele is more than happy to talk you through the options.

Decorative bark

Good news, you’ve asked, we’ve listened and we’re pleased to let you know we’re now stocking decorative bark 👏. Our £10, 75 litre bags are ideal for mulching, protecting plants from frosts or for paths and play areas. We’ve also had just over 1000 bags of compost delivered at the same time so we’re fully stocked with peat based, peat free and peat reduced ericaceous too - it’s all good. We’re still waiting for our delivery of the Melcourt peat free but while we wait for those our Humax peat free 50 litre bags are reduced from £10 to £8 a bag - who doesn’t like to save a few quid hey? 🤩 Why not pop over and stock up on your fave compost and soon to be fave decorative bark?

In other news…

While you’re here, we’ve recently had the second polytunnel recovered so it's now looking as good as the first one that was done towards the end of last year.

If you’re in need of refreshment while you’re here, we do have a fridge full of chilled drinks and a freezer full of fabulous ice cream from the lovely team at Rowlestone Farmhouse Ice Cream. There’s plenty of outside seating too, so if you’d like to take break, just grab one of us and we’ll sort it for you!

In need of some garden related ‘things’?

Also in our shop, we stock all the things you'd expect to find at your local nursery. There’s a wide range of garden essentials such as tree ties, plant labels, wire and vine ties right through to watering cans and great gifts for gardeners. We also have some gorgeous garden twines, pruners, loppers, plant food, child and pet safe garden care products, spades, forks as well as hosepipes and associated accessories. If you like your fires inside or out then we stock Certainly Wood's logs, flamers and kindling and as an alternative to logs for cooking on, we have Birchwood Forestry's pure hardwood charcoal in stock in either 3 or 6kg bags. Oh, and we stock a variety of composts too; peat reduced multi-purpose, ericaceous, Melcourt 'RHS Endorsed' peat-free multi-purpose and grow bags.

Gift vouchers?

We also sell gift vouchers that can be spent here and can be bought either in person at the nursery or online here.

Opening hours

We’re open 7 days a week, from 10am until 4pm.

We’ll close for our winter break on Friday 20th December and will open again on Saturday 1st February 2025.

As well as our plants we also create beautiful potted displays. These can be made to order in pots either bought at the nursery or provided by you. We also do single flower or mixed flower hanging baskets heading into both Spring and Winter and are happy to take orders if you have any specific plant or colour themes in mind.

A brief history

The original nursery launched on this site in 1997 and was in the hands of the same owners until July 2015. It was then taken over by Michele and Simon who moved to Madley with their three boys, Harry, George & Jim. They re-named the nursery Madley Plants and opened the cafe in March 2016.
